Welcome

Alright people, I'm giving this a go.

I started a discussion on LinkedIn a few weeks ago on how small business should work together to help each other grow. It spawned many comments as well as opened other discussions for small businesses to offer each other discounts.

I would like to keep this going and perhaps expand on it in this venue.

I would like your thoughts on how small business today can compete and grow in todays economy. We aren't getting any bail outs from anyone (not that they've worked for the big guys so far). We're on our own. So lets work together.

Here's your platform - are you a small business owner or do you have a service for small business. Let us know about you.

If you have a pet peeve, vent it. Obviously, you have to follow the basic rules of blogging - nothing naughty! nothing nasty! nothing illegal or that would embarrass your mother!

  1. Hi Lori,

What a great idea. I'd love to say a few things and look forward to hearing from others and perhaps we can all help each other.

I would have to say first, the first half of the year wasn't very good for anyone I'm sure, the key to success is to stick with it. Continue to look for work and network as much as possible, the work will come.

Keep an open mind, so you're open to new possibilities and perhaps even learn new things, so you're able to offer more.

Cheers, and feel free to contact me for help with any of your graphic of web needs.

    Susan

  3. Thanks Susan - I agree, we just have to keep on keeping on, working with each other when ever possible and cheering each other on - we'll all get through this.

Stephane - I will definately check out your blog, and feel free to add your thoughts on survival here.

  4. Survival...very appropriate. since starting my business I have gone through two contract droughts and a business re-focus. The second drought (caused by our government) actually got me to taking a full time job with another company...I would say yuck, working for someone else, but the work is fun...I won't stay here for ever though. Now I'm actively marketing my business on LinkedIn (http://www.linkedin.com/in/stephanebenoit and with word of mouth. You can say that I have been building this company for over 2 years now. I'm lucky since I have no initial investment costs, but it is a long journey that requires much patience. I would like to be out there pounding on every one's door, driving my business skyward. But just not quite ready yet...patience...I feel like a race horse just waiting for the gates to open. This is driving me crazy and I'm scared it will cause to make too many mistakes and make my business suck...Through out all this I still have to balance my personal needs and my family. That is survival all right...
